Pool Filter Cleaning & Replacement in Phoenix
Cartridge, DE and sand filters cleaned to manufacturer spec — restores flow, cuts pump run-time, and drops the electric bill. Element and media replacement through Pentair and Hayward partnerships.
A real filter clean. Not a hose-off.
A packed filter is the most-ignored equipment failure in Phoenix. Flow slips quietly — the pump runs longer to hold pressure, the waterfall weakens, salt-cell output sags — and by the time the water hazes, phosphates and organics have been building for weeks. Hose-rinsing the cartridge on the driveway is not a clean.
Love Pool Care services all three filter types: cartridge, DE, and sand. Cartridges are torn down, soaked in a chemical rinse to strip sunscreen oils and calcium, inspected for pleat damage, and reassembled with new o-rings. DE filters get a full grid teardown, chemical rinse, fresh DE powder, and a pressure-drop measurement before and after to verify the clean actually worked. Sand filters get a deep backwash, a chemical clean through the lateral manifold, and media replacement when grain fracture drops flow below spec.
All OEM elements come through Pentair and Hayward authorized partnerships — Clean & Clear, Quad DE, FNS Plus, Pro Series. Authorized-partner discounts are passed through to the invoice.
Four steps. No mystery line items.
A transparent filter service process with pressure readings before and after.
Flow and pressure reading
Baseline pressure at the gauge, skimmer suction, and return flow measured before any teardown.
Teardown and chemical rinse
Cartridge soaked in a degreaser to strip oils and sunscreen; DE grids flushed through; sand laterals cleaned.
Element or media swap
Damaged pleats, broken grids, or fractured sand replaced with OEM parts where needed.
Reassembly and verify
New o-rings, torqued per spec, pressure re-measured — the drop confirms the clean actually worked.
What's in every filter service.
Flat-priced by filter type.
Filter cleans are flat-priced by filter type and size. Element replacement, media swap, and any related plumbing repairs are itemized separately so you see exactly what the service costs versus parts. Free on-site evaluation if you're not sure what you have.
Filter service — answered.
Most residential cartridge filters need a proper chemical clean every 3–4 months; DE filters need a full teardown every 6 months plus backwashing with DE top-off between; sand filters need backwashing monthly and a chemical clean annually. Phoenix pools with heavy palo verde or olive fall can run shorter cycles during bloom season.
Pressure gauge reading 8–10 psi higher than the clean baseline, weaker return flow, waterfall or spillway running slower, pump cycling longer than usual to hold chlorine, or haziness in the water that won't clear with shock. Any one of those is enough to schedule a clean.
All three: cartridge (single-element and multi-element), DE (grid-style and fingertip), and sand. All OEM brands are supported — Pentair Clean & Clear, Quad DE, FNS Plus; Hayward ProGrid, SwimClear, Pro Series sand; Jandy CL, DEV. Parts come through authorized-partner channels at partner pricing.
DE filters give the finest filtration (down to 3–5 microns) and excel on pools with heavy organic load — palo verde blossoms, monsoon debris, olive drop. Cartridges are simpler, don't require DE powder, and are a cleaner fit for small pools and spas. Both work well in Phoenix; the right answer depends on pool size, debris load, and how often you want to service the filter.
Yes. Cartridge pleats that have torn, collapsed, or are at the end of their working life are replaced with OEM pleats. DE grid cloth is replaced when broken or glazed. Sand filter media is replaced every 5–7 years — grain fracture progressively drops flow and filtration, even with perfect cleaning.
Weekly visits include a pressure check and a filter rinse when needed, but full chemical cleans and teardowns are scheduled separately so they can be done right — filter apart, degreaser soak, reassembly with new o-rings. That work runs 45–90 minutes depending on filter type, and is quoted flat.
